The Hermit represents a person on their own inner-journey. Isolated from the busyness of civilization—the expectations, responsibilities, and judments that others may impose—the hermit is free to reflect without the influences of those around him. This card reminds us that we need to walk some parts of life alone if we want to connect with our most authentic selves. It may signal the time for deeper reflection in order to work out problems or questions in our lives, big or small. The Hermit walks a lone path, guided only by a single lantern. It illuminates the path in front of him, but not the entire path. This card reminds us that we may also need to have faith and trust in a journey which we may not be able to fully see the outcome in.
